Netherlands has become the first country in the world to implement long range (LoRa) network for the internet of things. Dutch telecom group KPN confirmed the news on Thursday, June 30th. KPN is providing LoRa with internet of things applications throughout the Netherlands. KPN has used 1.5 million IoT connections in this contract.

KPN’s LoRa network enhances existing 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. They are now supported by the hundreds of mobile transmission towers already across the country that has now been equipped with a LoRa antenna and gateway. KPN LoRa network took eight months to roll out, with its first section going live in November last year in The Hague and Rotterdam.
